Suzuki is a Japanese brand founded in 1909 that, although it has never been a main player in the World Rally Championship (WRC), has maintained a constant and consistent presence in rallying at both international and national levels, particularly in small entry-level categories. Its most notable involvement came with the Suzuki SX4 WRC, with which the brand competed officially in the WRC between 2007 and 2008, achieving some respectable results but no victories, before withdrawing due to economic reasons linked to the global financial crisis. Suzuki left a clearer mark in the JWRC (Junior World Rally Championship) during the Super 1600 era, first using the Suzuki Ignis S1600 and later the Suzuki Swift S1600 as platforms for young drivers. In the JWRC, Suzuki managed to produce champions with these cars: P-G Andersson won the title with Suzuki (Ignis and/or Swift depending on the season) and later Aaron Burkart was also champion with a Swift S1600, solidifying Suzuki's image as a "school" brand within the World Championship.
