THE BRAND IN RALLYING
← Back to brands
The Hummer is an off-road vehicle of American origin derived from the military HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) model, developed in the 1980s by AM General for the U.S. Army; its civilian version appeared in 1992 as the Hummer H1, also manufactured by this company. In 1999 the brand was acquired by General Motors, which produced the H2 and H3 models and later relaunched the concept in electric format under its GMC division. In off-road tests and raids, various prepared variants have stood out for their structural resistance, great ground clearance, full traction with differential locks, and high-torque engines—qualities that make it especially effective in difficult terrain such as dunes, rocks, or mud. Although its high weight limits speed compared to competition prototypes, its mechanical reliability and traction capacity have made it a common vehicle in endurance competitions and extreme expeditions.
