Ferrari is an Italian manufacturer of sports and racing cars founded in 1947 by Enzo Ferrari. Based in Maranello, the brand is synonymous with exclusivity, high performance, and success in motorsport, especially in Formula 1, where it is the most successful team in history. Although Ferrari never had an official program in the World Rally Championship (WRC), its name has also appeared in rallying through private entries, adapted models, and special projects that reflect the passion of some drivers and tuners for bringing Ferrari cars into unusual terrains.
Ferrari’s involvement in rallying has been very limited and almost always driven by private teams. In the 1960s and 1970s, models such as the Ferrari 250 GT and the Ferrari Dino 246 GT were used in international and national rallies, particularly on tarmac events where their power and lightness could be best exploited. The Dino 246, halfway between Ferrari and Fiat, had a longer competition life thanks to its agility and Group 4 homologation.
During the 1970s and 1980s, sporadic rally entries included the Ferrari 308 GTB and the Ferrari 308 GT/M. The latter was developed by Michelotto to comply with Group 4 and later Group B rally regulations, achieving some notoriety in European and national championships, although without official factory backing. The Michelotto 308 GTB even contested World Championship events such as the Tour de Corse and the Monte Carlo Rally, where it proved competitive on asphalt.
In the rally-raid era, there were also unusual adaptations, such as a modified Ferrari 308 that entered the Paris-Dakar Rally in the 1980s, more as a curiosity than as a realistic competitive contender.
