The real BMW M3 car based on the E30, features a 4-cylinder S14 DOHC 16-valve engine (2.3–2.5 L) with 200–238 HP in street versions, capable of reaching 300 HP at ~8,000 rpm for competition S14 engines. In the Rally Príncipe de Asturias in 1989, Pep Bassas and Antonio Rodríguez achieved first position with a BMW M3 very similar to the Exin model, which clearly took it as inspiration.
