Sunbeam Lotus

In 2012 the Club Scalextric car was a new version of the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus with reference U10404S300. Like previous versions it came with rear-wheel drive, front and rear LED lights, and a guide with automatic return and double braid. Following Club car tradition it carried the #21 corresponding to the year. In this case, and unlike previous years, it featured a rally livery (Lombard Rally), and although the "SCALEXTRIC" decoration is fictional it is clearly inspired by the style of the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus cars that competed in the Lombard RAC Rally in the early nineteen eighties.

The Talbot Sunbeam Lotus was a compact rally car from the late seventies developed by Talbot with a Lotus 2.2 engine producing up to around 250 bhp and rear-wheel drive. Light and very powerful for its size, it was renowned for its demanding and spectacular driving characteristics. Its greatest achievement was winning the Rally World Manufacturers' Championship in 1981. Today it is considered one of the icons of the era before the technological dominance of Group B.
