The Hyundai Accent WRC was the first car with which the South Korean manufacturer officially competed in the World Rally Championship between 2002 and 2003, developed by MSD in the United Kingdom. It underwent three evolutions (WRC1, WRC2 and WRC3), progressively improving the suspension, aerodynamics and 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, although it never achieved a podium finish. It provided a technical and experiential foundation for Hyundai’s later triumphant return with the i20 WRC. In 2003, Freddy Loix and Sven Smeets competed in the Monte Carlo Rally in a Hyundai Accent WRC3 entered by the Hyundai World Rally Team. They retired on stage 9 following an accident. Altaya based its PRO collection model on this car.
