In 1999, Tecnitoys released two new versions of the Toyota Corolla, which had first appeared in its range the previous year, together with a third version included in a set. All of them featured optical-transmission lights, four-wheel drive powered by a double-shaft motor, and a pivoting guide. Set reference 6901 included two cars with a mud-effect finish: a Toyota Corolla, reference 6901a, and a Ford Focus, reference 6901b. This Toyota Corolla, carrying race number #3 and the “MOVISTAR / CASTROL” livery, features the Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava decal and the names of C. Sainz and L. Moya on the rear side windows. Tecnitoys reproduced the real car that competed in 1999.

In 1997, Toyota introduced the Corolla WRC to replace the Celica GT-Four ST205 and comply with the new World Rally Car regulations. Shorter, more agile and with improved weight distribution, it made its debut at the Rally Finland and soon proved highly competitive. In 1999, Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya competed in the 35th Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava in a Toyota Corolla WRC, although they were forced to retire on SS19 due to an alternator problem. Tecnitoys reproduced this real car as its model reference 6901.
