1999 was a year of new releases for Tecnitoys, including the Ford Focus in two versions with references 6026 and 6027, the same year included a third version in a "challenge pack" with reference 6901b. All came with front and rear lights with optical transmission, four-wheel drive through a dual-axle motor and a tilting guide. The pack with reference 6901, included two vehicles with mud effect, a Toyota Corolla reference 6901a and a Ford Focus reference 6901b. The Ford Focus "VALVOLINE" with #7 bears a decal from Rally Catalunya Costa Brava and the names of McRae/Grist on the rear windows. It is the same model as reference 6026 from that same year, although without the white headlight and with mud effect. The model is clearly inspired by the one that ran in Rally Catalunya Costa-Brava, although Tecnitoys avoided the alcoholic beverage brand "Martini".

Designed by Ford Motorsport and M-Sport to debut in the 1999 WRC, the Focus WRC replaced the Escort and stood out for its agility and rigidity. Despite initial reliability issues, McRae achieved victories with it in Portugal and the Safari that same year. Colin McRae and his co-driver Nicky Grist participated in the 1999 Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava at the wheel of a Ford Focus from the Ford Motor Co. Ltd team, although they had to retire from the event. This car served as the model for Tecnitoys references 6026 and 6901, although it introduced small changes such as removing the "Martini" brand.
