The Peugeot 206 WRC made its debut at the 1999 Tour de Corse with François Delecour and Daniel Grataloup at the wheel of car #14 from the Peugeot Esso Total team. Although it suffered reliability problems on its debut and was unable to finish due to an electrical problem, it marked Peugeot's official return to the WRC World Championship. This new model represented Peugeot's transition from front-wheel drive cars like the 306 Maxi to a true World Rally Car with four-wheel drive and a 2-litre turbo engine producing around 300 hp. Compact, agile and technologically advanced, it introduced active differentials and carefully studied aerodynamics, marking a radical leap from its predecessors and soon becoming a world championship-winning car.
