Ensio Mikkander

Ensio Mikkander was a Finnish co-driver active mainly in the 1960s, known above all for serving as Pauli Toivonen's navigator in several international competitions.
His greatest sporting achievement came in 1966, when he was part of the crew that claimed the outright victory at the Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo, aboard a Citroën DS 21. In an era when the co-driver not only called pace notes but also managed time controls, impossibly tight road sections and manual regularity calculations, Mikkander stood out for his precision and reliability. He was never a media figure — the spotlight almost always fell on the driver — but within the paddock he was regarded as a solid navigator in long and technical rallies.
