Jimmy McRae

Jimmy McRae (Lanark, Scotland, 28 October 1943) is a British rally driver and one of the most important figures in the British Rally Championship. He won the series five times —1981, 1982, 1984, 1987 and 1988—, a record for the championship. He was also Irish Tarmac Rally Champion in 1980 and 1981 and European Rally Championship runner-up in 1982.

During his career he drove for works teams including Vauxhall, Opel and Austin Rover. One of the cars most closely associated with him was the Rothmans Opel Manta 400, in which he contested some of his major campaigns of the 1980s. The McRae name also became one of rallying’s best-known family names: his sons Colin and Alister McRae both became international rally drivers, and Colin won the World Rally Championship in 1995.
