Claude Marreau

His greatest achievement came in 1982, when he won the Dakar Rally at the wheel of a modest prepared Renault 20, overcoming factory-backed teams with far more powerful vehicles. This victory is considered one of the biggest upsets in rally raid history. The Marreau brothers had already made their mark in the early editions of the Dakar, finishing fifth in 1979 and third in 1980, always with production-derived cars but highly adapted for the desert. Their approach combined endurance, precise navigation and a remarkable ability for mechanical survival.
