Henri Magne

Henri Magne (Andorra la Vella, May 14, 1953 – Mauritania, May 23, 2006) was a French rally-raid co-driver, regarded as one of the most distinguished navigators in the history of the Dakar Rally. He began his rally-raid career in the mid-1980s, quickly earning recognition for his precision in navigation and his ability to manage races of extreme difficulty in the desert. He reached the pinnacle of sporting success alongside Jean-Louis Schlesser, with whom he achieved outright victory at the Dakar Rally in 1999 and 2000, driving Schlesser buggies, establishing himself as a reference in the specialty. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous editions of the Dakar and other international rally-raid competitions, collaborating with different drivers and leading manufacturers, especially Mitsubishi, and earning recognition for his experience, composure, and reliability as a co-driver. Henri Magne died in May 2006 as a result of an accident during a rally-raid event held in Mauritania, while competing as co-driver for Nasser Al-Attiyah. His death caused profound shock in the rally-raid world, where he is remembered as one of the most respected and successful navigators of his generation.
