Timo Mäkinen (Helsinki, 1938–2017) was a Finnish rally driver and one of the original "Flying Finns". As an official BMC driver behind the wheel of the Mini Cooper S, he won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1965 in a penalty-free performance widely regarded as historic. In 1966 he was the fastest on the road alongside Aaltonen and Hopkirk, but all three were controversially disqualified over headlight irregularities. A specialist on snow and gravel, he won the 1000 Lakes Rally four times and, later with Ford, claimed three consecutive RAC Rally victories between 1973 and 1975. He was inducted into the Rally Hall of Fame in 2010.
