Jacques Laffite

Jacques Laffite (Paris, 21 November 1943) is a former French racing driver. He won the European Formula 2 Championship in 1975 and competed in Formula One between 1974 and 1986, mainly with Ligier and Williams. He started 176 Grands Prix, achieved six victories —all with Ligier— and scored 32 podium finishes.

His Formula One career ended after the multiple accident at the start of the 1986 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, in which he suffered serious fractures to both legs and his pelvis. He subsequently continued competing in touring cars and endurance racing and took part in several editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1988 he also contested the Paris-Dakar with Pierre Landereau as co-driver, driving the Foltène team’s number 220 Porsche 953; the crew retired from the event.
