Ian Grindrod

Ian Grindrod is a British rally co-driver whose career was linked to several of the leading British drivers of the 1970s and 1980s. He formed a particularly successful partnership with Jimmy McRae and co-drove him to three of his British Rally Championship titles, in 1981, 1982 and 1987.

Grindrod also co-drove for drivers including Tony Pond and Roger Clark. In 1984 he partnered Henri Toivonen in the European programme for the Rothmans and Prodrive Porsche 911 SC RS, achieving among other results victory on the Ypres 24 Hours Rally. In early 1986 Jimmy McRae asked him to co-drive his young son Colin on the Snowman Rally to assess his driving, an early episode in the career of the future world champion.
