Richard Alexander Burns

Richard Alexander Burns (Reading, England, 17 January 1971 – London, 25 November 2005) was a British rally driver. He made his World Rally Championship debut on the 1990 RAC Rally and in 1993 became British champion, at the time the youngest winner of the title.

With Mitsubishi he achieved his first outright WRC victory on the 1998 Safari Rally. After moving to Subaru he finished World Championship runner-up in 1999 and 2000. In 2001 he won Rally New Zealand and, through his consistency over the season, became World Rally Champion, the first English driver to win the title. In 2002 he moved to Peugeot and remained with the manufacturer through 2003, when the diagnosis of a brain tumour ended his competition career. He died in 2005 at the age of 34.
